Making quiet loud
I grabbed speakers out of my parents attic. I used these to practice drums back in high school. They’re a little worse for the wear, but working. Now I can make the normally quiet V-Drums loud. It’s so satisfying. And the kids like to have a dance party while I play.

Triggers have arrived
The triggers arrived today. They’re super simple, and with limited testing (my son, Mason, has played more today than I have) there was no need to be worried; The triggers work perfectly. It took a few minutes to completely unscrew the lugs, but I think I’m going to appreciate the “permanence” of the triggers. They’re…

So much hardware…
I’ve continued to adjust the hybrid setup. I took the Roland v-drum rack, and disassembled it down to just three legs and two spans. I added an additional arm to mount the TD-12 module—one less piece of hardware to lug around. The Roland rack is super light, but can’t hold anything heaver than a pad. In…

I can’t believe this is on YouTube. I must have watched this a dozen times on VHS. I recall the VHS coming with a few booklets of drum song and practice patterns. It wasn’t well made and fell apart. I found one of the booklets for purchase online, but I haven’t found a good quality, downloadable PDF…

Another streak…
I’ve played drums every day for the past week for at least an hour a day. This used to be the norm, and will be again. Thanks to the reestablished practice kit and—unexpectedly—YouTube, this is the most consistent practice schedule I’ve kept in years.

Virtual Drums: The Future From the 80’s
I finally got around to setting up my larger electric kit, the V-Drums. I’ve had a very minimal practice kit setup in my office for the past year-or-so, using the Roland TD-12 with 2 of the cheapo rubber pads, one cymbal pad, and the KD-8 kick pad. It was find for basic rudiments, but never quite…

How to Tune Your Drums
YouTube is a treasure trove of learning for a drummer. The number of drum-less tracks alone is mind boggling.
